Training of Trainers Workshop for CSOs, Trade Unions, and Migrant Worker Leaders

The MY Voice Training of Trainers (TOT) methodology equips local trainers to cascade labour rights awareness and learnings throughout their communities and the palm oil and garment sectors. As part of this effort, the MY Voice project conducted a TOT workshop for migrant worker leaders, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Trade Unions in November and December 2024.

The TOT workshop followed the Awareness Raising Training on Forced Labour and Child Labour sessions delivered earlier in the year, which introduced participants to topics such as: Forced Labour, Child Labour, Gender-Based Violence and Harassment (GBVH) in the Workplace, Anti-Discrimination Practices, The Just Good Work (JGW) app, and Effective Communication.

Building upon these foundational topics, the TOT workshop brought together 40 participants from 15 organisations to further strengthen their training development and delivery skills. The interactive session introduced participants to various training resources, such as:

  • Facilitation Techniques with practice simulations and real-world scenarios.
  • Community Engagement Strategies for effective communication.
  • Creative and Interactive Training Tools to make sessions more engaging and impactful.

Through a blend of interactive methodologies and in-depth content, participants left prepared to raise awareness about crucial labour rights topics in their communities. The workshops also provided a space for participants to share their experiences, reflect on best practices, and learn from one another – strengthening their ability to adapt lessons to diverse community contexts.

“It was really fun, and we are able to understand the training methodology in an easy format”

The workshop was held in two different locations to ensure that participants from both Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah were able to attend. The cohorts consisted of:

  • Cohort 1: Held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah from 5 to 7 November 2024, with 24 participants from local CSOs and textile unions.
  • Cohort 2: Held in Kuala Lumpur from 7 to 8 December 2024, with 16 participants from worker organisations.
